Child Abuse Advocacy Group Speaking Out on Recent NFL Cases

width=The issues of domestic abuse among women and children has taken a national stage thanks to the actions of several high profile NFL players.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and it could not come at a better time given the recent spike in cases from the National Football League's players. Judy Brucker is the Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Center, she feels this is a time for leaders within the league to take a stand on the issue.

Adrian Peterson's abuse case has been highly publicized because of the involvement of his child, however, it was just over a year ago, we learned of the unfortunate passing of another son. Brucker says while it is surprising, she is not all that taken back by the circumstances. She feels he should have used that as a wake up call and changed his ways.

According to Brucker, conversations she's had recently have posed the idea of setting a different standard for football players, given the physical and often violent nature of their profession. She refutes that thought because there are numerous more parents and care givers who do not do the types of things being done to women and children.

According to Brucker, many times when child abuse cases come up, the perpetrators were treated the way they are treating their kids. She says there "wrong is wrong and when you're leaving marks on your child or putting them at risk, that is wrong, and also illegal".
