Champaign Woman Gets 25 Years In Attack, Robbery

A Champaign woman who slashed a man's throat has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Reports indicate 39-year-old Nicole Jackson will have to spend at least 21 ½ years behind bars after being sentenced in Champaign County. A jury found her guilty in September of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery in the attack on 32-year-old Andrew Procell.

Prosecutors say Jackson stole cash and a laptop computer after attacking Procell in May 2013 and said she hoped Procell would die.

Procell left his Champaign apartment but collapsed near the street because he was bleeding profusely. A passerby found him.

Prosecutors argued that Jackson's long criminal record called for a lengthy prison term.

Jackson's attorney asked for the minimum total of 12 years, noting that she suffers from mental illnesses.
