ISU Continues Move Up FCS Polls; QB Named Newcomer of the Week

>>ISU Continues Climb Up FCS Polls

Three teams in the top eight of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches Poll last week fell to unranked teams, which aided Illinois State (7-0, 4-0 MVFC) in moving up three spots to No. 6 in this week's poll following the Redbirds 21-7 defeat of Missouri State last weekend.

width=ISU's No. 6 ranking in the FCS Coaches Poll is the highest for the Redbirds since 2006, when they were also ranked sixth before heading to Northern Iowa, where they suffered a 38-27 defeat in the regular-season finale.

The Redbirds remain as one of four undefeated teams remaining in the Top 25 polls, alongside North Dakota State (8-0), Coastal Carolina (8-0) and Harvard (6-0). In addition to its move up the FCS Coaches Poll, ISU also moved up a pair of spots to No. 7 overall in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Monday.

For the third-consecutive week, Illinois State junior quarterback Tre Roberson led the Redbirds to a come-from-behind win in the fourth quarter to help his team earn a 21-7 victory over Missouri State. For his efforts, Roberson was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week by the league office Sunday.

The MVFC Newcomer of the Week honor is the second for Roberson this season. He previously earned the award following his performance in the Redbirds' win over South Dakota State on Oct. 5. Roberson completed seven passes for 168 yards with a touchdown and an interception, but also rushed for a school-record breaking 151 yards on the ground against the Jackrabbits.

The transfer from Indiana finished the game 11-of-18 with 169 yards and two touchdowns through the air and rushed for 85 yards and another score against the Bears to help ISU improve to 7-0 for the first time since 1932.
