Clinton Public Works Department begins City-Wide Leaf Cleanup

width=It's the time of year where yard clean up becomes almost a never ending battle and the City of Clinton hopes to provide residents with a small amount of help in that battle.

The city on a yearly basis offers curbside leaf clean up service throughout the fall season. According to Steve Lobb, Public Works Director for the City of Clinton, as the leaves begin to fall, his crews become more and more engaged in getting the piles picked up across the city.

The street department breaks the city down into five separate zones. Lobb indicates though the challenge becomes getting to all the areas of the city on a scheduled time. He explains weather, volume and equipment maintenance can be factors in when crews get to a portion of the city.

Lobb indicates homeowners need to rake their leaves to the side streets and get them to the back of the curb line. He says where the leaves go is specific because if they are too far out in the street they become a driving hazard and if they are too far back, his crews cannot get to them.

Lobb indicates many residents prefer to bag their leaves and leave them by the curbs. He encourages that and notes the only way his crews can take those leaves is if they are in the paper bags.

He also encourages residents who do not want to wait for their leaves to be picked up and have the resources, to take them to the yardwaste facility. He says currently it is open all day Saturday's, and 4-6 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Next week those hours will shift from 3-5 pm after the time change. width=
