Pekin Man Gets 4-Years In Drugged Child Case

A Pekin man has been sentenced to four years in prison after he dropped drug-laced candy on the floor that a 2-year-old boy then ate.

According to reports, 24-year-old Matthew Tarantino was sentenced Thursday for possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Authorities say Tarantino dropped a candy laced with ecstasy in the home where the toddler lived in June 2013. They say he didn't pick up the candy and the boy ingested it.

The boy's mother brought him to the hospital when she noticed he was drooling, his eyes were rolling and he was lethargic. Tarantino was arrested that night.

The judge says Tarantino's failure to pick up the drug could have had deadly results.

Tarantino had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison for burglary charges.
