Pekin Man Indicted For Drunken Driving In Lot

A Tazewell County grand jury has indicted a Pekin man accused of drunken driving through a parking lot while it was filled with adults and children.

Reports indicate 49-year-old Wade Stewart is charged with aggravated driving under the influence and reckless driving. He faces up to seven years in prison for the DUI charge.

Police say Stewart's blood alcohol content was 0.187 when tested in the Pekin parking lot. They say officers were called to the complex Oct. 11 by witnesses who said a car was stuck on a parking block after the driver nearly hit children.

Police say a juice bottle in the car contained alcohol. Stewart tells police he took pills and drank alcohol.

Stewart is jailed on $50,000 bond. It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
