Authorities have charged a suburban Chicago man who allegedly led police in northern Illinois on a series of chases in stolen cars and continued to flee despite being shot.
Lake County prosecutors on Friday charged 18-year-old Ronald Q. Maas of Ingleside with attempted murder, theft and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
The Lake County sheriff's office says the first chase began Thursday night when officers in Round Lake spotted a stolen Ford sedan.
It says that over the next 2 ½ hours, Mass got into several accidents, including two head-on collisions, and rammed a squad car. Several people were injured.
Authorities say a Round Lake Heights officer opened fire, striking him in the cheek, but Mass continued to flee.
Sheriff's deputies arrested him at a ranch.
