The Menard County Sheriff's office says a Springfield Fire Department captain has been arrested for carrying a shotgun into a rural Athens home and threatening residents.

According to reports, 52-year-old Timothy McEvoy was arrested at his Springfield home early Wednesday.

Sheriff Chuck Jones told the paper McEvoy owns property in Athens and was involved in a dispute with neighbors over accusations of trespassing.

A spokesman at the Menard County Sheriff's office confirmed Saturday that McEvoy is facing charges, but declined to detail what those charges were.

McEvoy was released from the Menard County Jail after posting bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
