Rubber Trade Group Stressing Tire Safety For Upcoming Holidays

It may not be the first thing you think of before setting off on that Holiday season trip, but tire experts say you need to check your tire pressure and depth. Dan Zielinski of the Rubber Manufacturers Association says a study they did of more than three-thousand vehicles found some tire maintenance issues.

Zielinski says a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Study found worn tires to be a major crash factor.

Zielinski says a traffic stop for another reason can get you into trouble with your tires.

He says a federal safety report showed a bald or badly worn tire is three times more likely to figure into a crash than a tire with more tread depth on it. He says before taking that holiday trip, check tire tread depth using a penny.
