Oregon QB Wins Heisman

(New York, NY) -- Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota [[ mar-ee-OH-tuh ]] is the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner. Mariota has thrown for 3,783 yards, 38 touchdowns and only two interceptions for the second-ranked Ducks this season. The junior has also rushed for 669 yards and 14 TDs. He is the first Oregon player to ever win the award. Mariota and the 12-and-1 Ducks will face last year's Heisman winner Jameis Winston and third-ranked Florida State as part of the first-ever College Football Playoff on January 1st.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon finished second in the voting. Gordon has rushed for 2,336 yards and 26 touchdowns this year. Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper finished third after catching 115 passes for 1,656 yards and 14 scores this season.

(Auburn, AL) -- A suspect is under arrest in the murder of a freshman football player at Auburn University. Police say Jakell Mitchell was shot to death at an apartment complex near the university's campus in Auburn, Alabama last night. Police have arrested Markale Hart for the murder, but are not releasing any more details at this time.

(Undated) -- Former Florida head football coach Will Muschamp didn't stay out of work for long. Multiple reports say he will be hired as Auburn's defensive coordinator. He was previously the DC at Auburn from 2006-07. Muschamp was fired in November but coached the final two games of the regular season. Ellis Johnson was fired by Auburn after the Tigers lost the Iron Bowl to Alabama.
