Clinton Am Vets Make Sizeable Donation To Danville Veterans Hospital

The Clinton Am Vets concluded a nearly three week effort of collecting needed items for veterans in need at the Danville Veterans Hospital.

Collecting items from clothes to toiletries and money, Jesse Owens with the Clinton Am Vets Post 14 explains the community stepped up in a big way this year. He says they collected dozens of clothing items and fifty boxes of toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The Am Vets collected close to $800 dollars worth of monetary donations and according to Owens, they decided to distribute those to several different sources within the hospital. He explains they contributed gas cards for families to visit the veterans and to their general fund.

In addition to the things donated to the Am Vets, Owens indicates youth in the community also got involved. He was in contact with an elementary teacher about having the students make Christmas cards for the Veterans, and he says he received handmade cards from each school.

Owens cannot thank enough everyone within the community who stepped up to help with the drive. He says it was a couple cars full of boxes and goods they were able to help.

He hopes to do this again next year and possibly in the middle of the summer.
