ISU Tops Quincy

Reserve guard Justin McCloud scored a career-high 18 points to lead Illinois State over Division II Quincy 99-57 on Monday.

 width=McCloud was 5 of 6 from the floor - all 3-pointers - as the junior college transfer played his most significant minutes of the season for Illinois State (9-4).

The Redbirds never trailed against the lower-division Hawks. Illinois State raced out to a 21-6 lead over the first 8 minutes of the game. A 16-0 run midway through the first half - including three 3-pointers by McCloud - pushed the lead to 24 and Illinois State led comfortably at the half, 59-23.

Illinois State scored 14 of the first 17 points of the second half to extend its lead to 73-26 before easing to the win.

Quincy made just 2 of 13 attempts from beyond the arc. Josh Schaben led the Hawks with 15 points on 7 of 7 shooting.

The Blue Devils got the other first-place vote this week and remain second. Arizona fell from third to seventh after losing at UNLV last week. Virginia is ranked third, followed by Wisconsin and Villanova. Louisville fell from fourth to sixth after losing to top-ranked Kentucky on Saturday. Gonzaga is eighth, with Iowa State and Texas rounding out the top-10.
