New Legislation Helps Disabled Veterans Become and Remain Homeowners

Illinois veterans who return home from the battlefield with disabilities are getting a big thank you from the State of Illinois that offers far more than gratitude. Legislation signed by Governor Quinn makes them and their spouses eligible for more property tax exemptions. Disabled veterans will see an increased homestead exemption to $100,000 from $70,000. In some cases donors have provided homes for disabled vets but the returning vets struggled with property taxes.
