Weather Service Issues Wind Chill Warning, Advisory thru Thursday

 width=

The National Weather Service has issued wind chill advisories and warnings across Central Illinois from now thru Thursday.

The wind chill warning is for counties along and north of Interstate 72 thru noon on Thursday. The wind chill advisory is for counties between Interstate 72 and Interstate 70 thru noon Thursday.

Bitter cold temperatures and extreme wind chills will occur tonight through Thursday as an intense Arctic high pressure area moves into the plains. Temperatures tonight will drop to below zero over most of the area.

However, northwest winds will become gusty as the high pressure area moves into the plains. This will create wind chills of -15 to -30 across central and southeast Illinois for late tonight into tomorrow morning.

The Weather Service says temperatures will be even colder tomorrow night, with some areas reaching to 10 to 15 below zero. The high pressure will be closer as well, which will bring lighter winds. However, wind chills will still be in the -15 to -30 range across the area through Thursday morning.
