Free Lincoln Museum Admission on King Day for Volunteers

Community groups working toward improved Illinois neighborhoods will have free admission to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum on Martin Luther King Day.

The civil rights leader's birthday is celebrated Jan. 19 as a national holiday. King once said that "greatness is determined by service."

Community organizations may bring groups to the museum at no charge that day. The usual admission price is $12 for adults and $6 for children.

Groups must have 15 or more people and have one chaperone for each 10 children.

The library and museum will also give discounts to those who buy gloves for the homeless. Through the end of January, the gift shop is selling gloves for $2.99 that will be donated to Springfield's homeless.
