Blues Win; Blackhawks Forward Suspended

(St. Louis, MO) -- Jaden Schwartz netted his 16th goal of the year as the Blues took down the Avalanche 3-1 at the Scottrade Center. T.J. Oshie [[ OH-shee ]] and Carl Gunnarsson both added a goal, and Brian Elliot tallied 18 saves in the victory. St. Louis has won seven of its last eight. Semyon Varlamov allowed all three goals on 30 shots as Colorado lost for the fourth time in five games. Matt Duchene [[ doo-SHANE ]] scored the lone goal in the setback.

(Chicago, IL) -- The Blackhawks battle the Coyotes at the United Center tonight. Chicago is coming off Sunday's 6-3 home loss to the Stars. The 'Hawks have dropped two straight and three-of-four overall. The puck drops at 7:30.

The NHL has suspended Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo for six games for cross checking Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault.

The punishment stems from a hit during Friday's loss to the Jets when he cross checked Perreault across the back in the closing seconds of the second period..

Carcillo sat out Sunday's game while awaiting a hearing and will miss five more.

Carcillo loses $40,243.92 in salary.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar and New York Islanders right wing Kyle Okposo were named the NHL's players of the week on Monday.

Byfuglien was selected as the First Star. He led all defensemen with three goals and added three assists, helping the Jets to wins in all four of their games last week.

Tatar picked up the Second Star after sharing the league lead with five goals and seven points last week. He scored in four straight games, leading Detroit to wins in each contest.

Okposo also scored five goals last week to garner the Third Star. Four of those goals came Friday in a 6-3 win over Pittsburgh.
