Lawmakers React to Rauner's Proposal of Employee Empowerment

The reaction is pouring in from both sides of the debate about right to work after Governor Bruce Rauner dropped what some are calling a rhetorical bomb on employee unions in Illinois.

During a presentation in Decatur Rauner proposed what he called Employee Empowerment Zones. The idea would essentially create areas where regulations about mandating union membership for some employees would be lifted, though the specifics are lacking. Illinois News Network has more:

Rauner’s announcement of the so-called right to work zones was the first mention of the issue he’s made as Governor. The governor also addressed the cost of employee health care premiums. Rauner is scheduled to delve more into these and other issues during his State of the State address February 4th and his Budget address a few weeks thereafter.
