Monticello held the fourth ranked team in the state to 40% shooting and under 20% beyond the arc, Zach Fisher logged his second double-double of the season and the Sages pulled off an improbably 54-50 upset of Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals in Monticelo Tuesday night.
Fisher had 14 points and ten rebounds and Noah Freemon added 10 points as the Sages used a balance offensive attack to pull out the win.
Warrensburg-Latham forced 16 turnovers and had four players score in double-figures but could not overcome a poor shooting and were completely dominated on the glass (36-24) en route to their first loss of the season.
Austin Hardin came off the bench to lead the Cardinals with 12 points. Austic Tucker, Garrett Shea, and Tyler Bond each added 10 points but only two other players recorded buckets.
The Sages improve to 13-3 on the season, while Warrensburg-Latham falls to 17-1.
Monticello gets back into Okaw Action Friday night when they head to St. Thomas More.
The Cardinals take on Central A&M Saturday afternoon in Central Illinois Conference tournament action.
