ISU Wins, Bradley Loses

>>Illinois State Tops Missouri State

DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell scored 20 points, hauled in a career-high 12 rebounds and led Illinois State to a 67-57 win over Missouri State on Wednesday night.

 width=Daishon Knight contributed 14 points and Reggie Lynch added 12 for Illinois State (13-8, 5-4 Missouri Valley), which shot 44 percent from the floor on 55 attempts and controlled the boards 36-26. Akoon-Purcell sank all eight of his shots from the free throw line and his 20 points tied a career best.

Leading by three at the break, Illinois State opened the second with a 9-2 run capped by Knight's 3-pointer to make it 37-27 with 17:40 to play and held on the rest of the way. Buckets from Missouri State's Chris Kendrix twice cut the gap to seven in the final 2:22.

Camyn Boone led Missouri State (8-13, 2-7) with 13 points and Christian Kirk added 10 as the Bears lost their seventh straight.

Reed Timmer and Gary Ricks Jr. each scored 15 points to help Drake roll to a 69-57 victory over Bradley on Wednesday night.

Timmer was 6 of 10 from the floor and Ricks made 5 of 12 shots, including 4 of 9 from long range. Jacob Enevold Jensen chipped in 14 points and Karl Madison dished out five assists for Drake (5-16, 2-7 Missouri Valley), which shot 55.6 percent from the field.

The Bulldogs had a 41-31 halftime lead and stretched it to 54-39 on Ricks' 3-pointer with 14:09 remaining. Auston Barnes hit a 3 to pull Bradley within 58-51 with 7:37 left, but the Braves did not get closer.

Warren Jones had 18 points, and Josh Cunningham scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Bradley (7-15, 2-7), which outrebounded Drake 35-23.

Fred VanVleet scored a career-high 27 points to lead No. 12 Wichita State to a 58-47 win over Loyola on Wednesday night.

Ron Baker added 16 points as the Shockers (19-2, 9-0 Missouri Valley) shot just 41 percent from the floor and 43 percent from the free throw line. VanVleet and Baker were a combined 16 of 28 from the floor. The rest of the team was 6 of 26.

Devon Turk scored nine points for Loyola (13-8, 3-6), which was held to its lowest scoring output of the season.

Wichita State's shooting struggles started right away. The Shockers had 17 shots in the game's first eight minutes but made just four of them, including a VanVleet 3-pointer for a 10-6 lead.

With Wichita State unable to convert shots, the Ramblers stayed close. Jeff White's baseline drive and layup gave Loyola a 16-15 lead with 6:03 remaining in the half.

(West Lafayette, IN) -- Rapheal Davis dropped in 19 points as Purdue blasted 21st-ranked Indiana 83-67 in West Lafayette. A.J. Hammons and Bryson Scott scored 11 points apiece for the Boilermakers, who moved to 13-and-8 on the season and 5-and-3 in Big Ten play. Yogi Ferrell netted a game-high 21 points for the Hoosiers, who slipped to 15-and-6 and 5-and-3. James Blackmon Jr. added 13 points in defeat.

(South Bend, IN) -- Jerian Grant racked up 23 points, 12 assists and six rebounds to lead eighth-ranked Notre Dame to a 77-73 upset win over fourth-ranked Duke in South Bend. Pat Connaughton chipped in with 13 points and 12 boards for the Fighting Irish, who have won five in-a-row to improve to 20-and-2 on the season and 8-and-1 in the ACC. Zach Auguste added 14 points and six boards in the victory. Jahill Okafor recorded 22 points and 17 rebounds to pace the Blue Devils, who slipped to 17-and-3 and 4-and-3. Quinn Cook had 15 points and Tyus Jones scored 14 in defeat.
