(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago White Sox are parting ways with outfielder Dayan Viciedo [[ vee-see-AYE-doh ]]. The Pale Hose have released the 25-year-old after designating him for assignment late last month. Viciedo hit .231 with 21 home runs and 58 RBI in 145 games for Chicago last season. He signed with the club in December 2008 after defecting from Cuba. Viciedo hit .254 with 66 home runs in five big league seasons with the White Sox.

(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are bringing in some pitching depth. The Redbirds have signed Carlos Villanueva to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. The 31-year-old right-hander went 5-and-7 with a 4.64 ERA last season with the Chicago Cubs. He appeared in 42 games, including five starts. Villanueva is 45-and-50 lifetime with a 4.26 ERA in nine seasons with the Brewers, Blue Jays and Cubs.
