Mattoon and Jacksonville have something in common they aren't exactly celebrating.

Like the Eastern Illinois town before it, Jacksonville officials learned last week that federal officials pulled the plug on the proposed clean energy FutureGen plant. Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard is still struggling with the news.

Ezard is holding out some hope that officials could put the FutureGen proposal back in play.

FutureGen called for the conversion of a former Ameren plan in Meredosia to clean energy technology.
