Some Illinois lawmakers try to put a stop to red-light cameras.

Critics in the General Assembly dismiss the cameras as dishonest and unhelpful to driver safety. One Illinois House proposal would slap a moratorium on red light cams in Chicago, another would seek a statewide ban.

Seven other states have made similar moves.

Supporters continue to say the red light cameras continue to make intersections safer.
