Clinton BOE Gives Nod of Support To Vision 2020

width=The voices supporting a measure in Illinois to bring major reforms to Illinois schools received another addition Tuesday night.

Vision 2020 has been widely praised and supported by area schools and Tuesday night, the Clinton Board of Education voiced their approval of the measure. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Holmes outlined a few of the four pillars of the movement, and among them is the elimination of what he calls "burdensome" mandates.

Dr. Holmes discussed the funding mechanism of Vision 2020 quite extensively Tuesday night. Sen. Jason Barickman and Sen. Andy Manar have come together to co-sign a bill that the Superintendent calls "big".

Sen. Bill 16, now titled Sen. Bill 1, has been combined with the legislation Sen. Barickman is proposing. Dr. Holmes points out Clinton schools would lose almost $2-million.

Dr. Holmes says he is interested to hear more about what Gov. Bruce Rauner has in store for Illinois in his budget address set for Wednesday at noon. He points to Rauner's comments in the State of the State about increasing education funding and hopes the Governor elaborates.
