Illinois Loses At Iowa; ISU Tops Southern Illinois

Aaron White pumped in a game-high 29 points as the Iowa Hawkeyes held off the Illinois Fighting Illini for a 68-60 win in a Big Ten Conference matchup at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

White knocked down 8-of-13 shots from the floor for Iowa (18-10, 9-6 Big Ten) as it picked up its third victory in a row. Jarrod Uthoff led all players on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Rayvonte Rice paced the Fighting Illini (17-11, 7-8) with 20 points and nine boards. Ahmad Starks chipped in 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field for Illinois, which has now lost three consecutive outings.

White scored 20 of his points and converted 8-of-9 free-throw tries after the break. Iowa limited the visitors to 25 percent efficiency from the floor and led by as many as 12 in the second period. The Fighting Illini assisted only three of their seven makes from the floor after halftime.

Illinois finished 7-of-21 from 3-point range. Iowa outscored the Fighting Illini, 20-15, at the charity stripe.

 width=DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell hit four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 24 points to lead Illinois State over Southern Illinois 73-56 on Wednesday night.

Daishon Knight added 11 points and MiKyle McIntosh 10 for the Redbirds (18-11, 10-7 Missouri Valley), who won their third in a row and are tied for third place in the MVC.

Anthony Beane scored 24 points for the Salukis (10-20, 3-14), who have lost five straight with their last victory coming at home over Illinois State, 65-59, on Feb. 7.

The Redbirds opened the second half with nine unanswered points, six from Akoon-Purcell, to snap a 36-all tie. A 3-pointer by Akoon-Purcell started an 8-0 run to boost the Redbirds to a 14-point lead, 55-41, with 12:12 left. The Salukis cut their deficit to eight on two baskets by Beane with 7 minutes remaining before Justin McCloud made a pair of 3-pointers in a 14-5 game-ending run.

Christian Kirk had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Missouri State past Bradley 80-77 in triple-overtime Wednesday night.

Chris Kendrix and Loomis Gerring each hit a pair at the line in the final :23 to push the Missouri State lead to five and the Bears held on.

Austin Ruder had 20 points, including five 3s and Kendrix added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Bears (11-18, 5-12 Missouri Valley).

Bradley scored the first seven points of double overtime, but Missouri State scored seven of the next eight points capped by a tying 3-pointer from Gavin Thurman with 1:16 left.

After three free throws from Sutherland put Bradley up three, Ruder hit a tying 3-pointer with 6 seconds left to force a third overtime.

Josh Cunningham had 15 points and a career-high 21 rebounds, 11 on the offensive end, and Tramique Sutherland added 20 points for the Braves (8-22, 3-14).
