University Employees Face Possible Perk Cut

A popular perk of working at a state university could go away if an Illinois lawmaker’s plan moves ahead.

Democratic state Rep. Jack Franks wants to slowly do away with the tuition waivers that employees at state universities get for their children. Frank’s plan would eliminate the 50 percent tuition wavier over the next 4 years and incoming students wouldn’t get them next fall.

Franks chalks up savings of $10 million a year to the state’s universities by eliminating the 2,100 tuition waivers that were issued last year.
