City of Clinton Seeking Second Contract For Electric Aggregation

The City of Clinton will be headed out to get bids for mass purchase of electricity for city residents.

The process known as electric aggregation locks in a rate for electricity that is lower than what local providers can offer to residents. According to City Administrator Tim Followell, the upcoming bidding process is because an 18-month contract on a previous rate will soon expire.

According to Followell, forecasts are projecting electric rates to rise over the next few years. Because of that, he believes the rate they receive should be very good for those who decide to be a part of the program.

Electric aggregation is a choice all residents have. Followell explains, just as what happened the first time around 18 months ago, if residents do not want to be a part of the program, they will have the opportunity to decline being a part of electric aggregation.

Followell also indicates the billing for this cycle of aggregation bidding will not change. Residents will continue to receive their bill from Ameren and they will continue to deliver the engery and payments would continue to be made to them.

For residents that do not wish to be a part of the program, they will need to complete a form that they will receive indicating they do not wish to be a part of the program. Followel says anyone that does not provide that information will automatically be enrolled.
