Renovation of State Farm Center In Full Swing

After the final buzzer for the Fighting Illini's home basketball season last Wednesday, construction crews went right to work on the most radical stage of the renovation of State Farm Center.

Kent Brown with Illini Athletics says much of the lower interior of the longtime Assembly Hall has been cleared of seats and concrete as the school prepares for an improved fan experience.

Large machinery had the lower levels almost completely removed in just a few days. Brown says things are moving right along.

The final stages of the renovation will offer improved creature comforts for student athletes, which Brown says will help recruiting. In November, the Illini will play their first month of games in Springfield's Prairie Capital Convention Center.
