It's official. Schock resigning.

Not long ago he was a GOP rising star. After a political career that has featured his picture in Men's Health and a school board slot in his teenage years, Congressman Aaron Schock is stepping down effective at month's end after repeated waves of controversy. Schock's travel and office decor patterned after the PBS hit Downtown Abbey has drawn scrutiny as well profitable real estate transactions with donors in his home base of Peoria. If anyone had as much heat on Schock as the Chicago Sun Times, it was CREW-Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Last month they asked ethics investigators to look into Schock spending of taxpayer money three times. Director Anne Wiseman wasn't ready to call for Schock's ouster but she had serious questions about his ability to stay on at Capitol Hill as the negative headlines continued to stack up...

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) released the following statement after Congressman Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) announced his resignation from Congress.

“Aaron is a friend and this is a sad day for the Illinois delegation but I know Congressman Schock is doing what he thinks is best for his constituents and I support his decision." said Davis. "I have enjoyed serving with Aaron in Congress and will miss working with him on legislative issues important to Illinois."

- U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement regarding the resignation of U.S. Representative Aaron Schock (R-IL):

“The allegations against Congressman Schock are serious, raising questions about his expenditure of official funds and campaign funds. His resignation came as a surprise and reflects the gravity of his situation.”

Governor Bruce Rauner issued the following statement:

“This is a sad day for the people of Illinois and the 18th District.”
