Unemployment figures in Illinois increased in many local counties throughout January as local unemployment figures were released Thursday afternoon.
DeWitt County saw unemployment increase from 5.6% in December to 6.2 in January.
Piatt County grew a whole percentage point, going from 4.8% to 5.8%.
Macon County's unemployment also increased by a percent going from 7% in December to8% in January.
Logan County saw unemployment go from 5.5% to 6.3%.
Unemployment in McLean County grew in January, going from 4.8% to 5.4%.
In Champaign County, employment also increased,up to 5.8%.
Unemployment in Sangamon County increased to 6%.
The highest unemployment rate was at 9.7% in Johnson County.
Brown County once again had the state's lowest unemployment rate at 4%.
The state's unemployment increased going from 5.8% in December to 6.9% in January. The national unemployment rate dropped from 6.1% to 5.4%.
