CHS Students To Hear About Helping Those Battling Depression

Clinton High School was struck with tragedy earlier this year when a student took his own life, now, administrators are hoping an upcoming workshop will help better prepare them to handle a potential situation in the future.

Senior Evan Workman passed away tragically in September and this week, administrators at Clinton High School hope a special workshop will help them better understand and approach people struggling with depression or even suicide. Jerry Wayne, Principal of Clinton High School wants to give students the knowledge to provide help in a proper way to help them.

Students will learn about the knowing what a person with depression will do and look like, how they will act, and Wayne says while literature and electronic presentations can provide good information, he feels, it might be more impactful coming from someone who has been through it.

Timing of this training was of great concern for Wayne as he prepared for this. Wayne explains he inquired about how soon is too soon and when is a good time frame to once again bring the subject back up. It was recommended a semester of time be the approximate healing period.

This Friday is the final day before Spring Break for the students. Wayne indicates each class will be addressed individually through the course of the day. His Facebook page, for more information, is called "Finding Hope" and anyone with inquiries or questions should direct themselves there.
