Monticello Starts Fast, Holds On Late Over LeRoy

As heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and dewittdailynews.com, the Monticello Lady Sages softball team started fast Monday afternooon in an 8-6 victory of LeRoy in non-conference action.

The Lady Sages put up four first inning runs and two second inning runs and weathered a late rally that saw the Lady Panthers put up five runs in the fourth, capped by a two-run home run by Payton Risinger.

 width=Each team had three games canceled last week thanks to frigid cold temperatures and rain.

For the Lady Sages, Makayla Reedy capped the four run first inning with a two-run home run and finished 2-for-4 with the two RBIs.

Sam Valentine scored three times, finishing 1-for-3 and Layne Buzan drove in two runs in a 1-for-3 effort as well and also scored twice.

Megan Magsaman added a pair of RBIs.

Sophie Catlin went the distance in the circle, going seven innings, allowing six runs on five with five hits yeilding four walks and had nine strikeouts.

The Lady Sages improve to 2-0 on the season, and LeRoy falls to 2-2.
