Two officials fighting for control of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum differ on how much it costs to operate.

The Senate Appropriations Committee heard the potential impact Thursday of Gov. Bruce Rauner's plan to eliminate the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, which controls the 10-year-old shrine to Springfield's famous son.

Library Director Eileen Mackevich (MAK'-ih-vik) testified the proposed $15 million budget for a stand-alone institution would suffice.

But Sunny Fischer objected. She's chairwoman of the preservation agency's board, which opposes the plan. She says Mackevich isn't counting up to $2 million the agency paid for the library and museum's lawyers, accountants and other services.

Mackevich - with Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan's support - began pushing to separate the museum last year.
