Springfield Reenacts Lincoln's Funeral

Four years of 150th anniversary Civil War reenactments have come to a close with the recreation of the funeral for President Abraham Lincoln in Springfield.

More than a thousand re-enactors in Springfield reproduced a somber event that marked the end of the war, the funeral procession for President Abraham Lincoln. For many onlookers like Linda LoBue, seeing horses pass slowly through the Capital City's historic streets with a hearse pulling a mock casket, brought back memories of the JFK funeral procession.

Retired Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank Williams took part in the funeral reenactment ceremony at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Reenactors paid a price in their heavy material 1860s attire. Some were forced to drop out of the funeral procession from Downtown Springfield to Oak Ridge because of the heat.
