Local Leaders, Citizens Headed To Springfield To Help Save Exelon

Supporters of the Exelon Clinton Nuclear Power Station will be headed to Springfield Wednesday to show their support for the County's largest employer.

Local leaders and community members will be taking part in a rally at the Capitol Wednesday to show Illinois lawmakers the support the Power Plant has in DeWitt County. According to Ruth Stauffer, Executive Director of the DeWitt County Development Council, the issue reaches far beyond the limits of Clinton and DeWitt County.

The group heading to Springfield will not be the first time meetings have been held to find solutions to help the power plant remain in Clinton. According to Stauffer, her staff has been in regular communication with Exelon officials along with state representatives.

The rally looks to give a push to a piece of legislation that would bring Exelon and nuclear energy on level with other energy sources. According to Brett Nauman, Communications Director at Exelon Clinton Nuclear Power Station, the legislation would make Illinois a leader in renewable energy standards.
