Cardinals Route Cubs; Sox Lose

 width=Jason Heyward finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI to fuel St. Louis' 5-1 victory over Chicago in the finale of a four-game series.

Peter Bourjos also drove in a run for the Cardinals, who took three of four in the series, have won nine of 10 overall and upped their major-league best record to 21-7.

John Lackey (2-1) struck out 10 while allowing only a run on five hits with a walk over 7 2/3 innings. He also contributed an RBI double.

Chris Coghlan and Jorge Soler each collected two hits and Starlin Castro knocked in the lone run for the Cubs, who have dropped six of their last eight outings.

Jake Arrieta (3-3) was tagged for five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits over 5 1/3 frames, despite fanning seven.

Kyle Lobstein worked into the eighth inning and Victor Martinez added three hits with an RBI as Detroit claimed a 4-1 decision over Chicago in the finale of a three-game set.

Lobstein (3-2) gave up an unearned run on five hits through 7 2/3 innings, exiting after exactly 100 pitches and 64 for strikes. Joakim Soria recorded the final four outs to earn his 11th save.

Miguel Cabrera scored twice and drove in a run for the Tigers, who also received an RBI from Nick Castellanos to avoid a series sweep.

Avisail Garcia drove in the lone run for the White Sox, losers in six of their last eight. Jose Quintana (1-3) struck out eight but suffered the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over five full frames.
