McIlroy Tightens Grip On Top Spot In World

 width=Rory McIlroy won for the second time in three weeks on the PGA Tour and extended his lead atop this week's world rankings.

McIlroy pushed his advantage over world No. 2 Jordan Spieth from 3.73 average points to 4.46 average points.

Behind them, there was little change to the top-20. Henrik Stenson was No. 3 again and followed by Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk and Justin Rose.

Jason Day and Sergio Garcia exchanged places with Day inching up to seventh. Rickie Fowler stayed put in ninth and was trailed by Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, Jimmy Walker, J.B. Holmes, Hideki Matsuyama, Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar.

Phil Mickelson pushed up a spot to 17th and that pushed Martin Kaymer down to 18th. Billy Horschel and Bill Haas were 19th and 20th again this week.

Webb Simpson and Patrick Rodgers shared second place behind McIlroy at Quail Hollow. Simpson improved 14 places to 36th, while Rodgers soared 196 spots to No. 137.

James Morrison won the Open de Espana and jumped from No. 296 to No. 158 thanks to his second European Tour title.
