Illini Get #6 Overall National Seed

The Illinois Fighting Illini baseball team earned the No. 6 overall seed in the 2015 NCAA Baseball Championship, announced by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee Monday. Illinois, which nabbed a national seed for the first time, will welcome Ohio, Notre Dame and Wright State to Illinois Field for the NCAA Regional on May 29-June 1.

Illinois is the top seed among the four programs set to square off in Champaign. The double-elimination competition will begin on Friday afternoon at noon CT when second-seeded Notre Dame faces third-seeded Wright State. The Illini will take on fourth-seeded Ohio on Friday evening at 7 p.m. CT.

The regional winner qualifies for one of eight Super Regionals and takes one step closer to the College World Series in Omaha. Regional play begins on Friday, May 29 and runs through Monday, June 1 (if necessary). All games at the NCAA Champaign Regional will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and Watch ESPN.
