The St. Louis Blues and head coach Ken Hitchcock have agreed to a one-year contract for the 2015-16 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hitchcock has been the Blues' head coach since Nov. 7, 2011 and has guided the club to four straight postseason appearances, but his status had been in question following a first-round playoff loss to Minnesota earlier this spring.

The Blues won the Central Division this season with a record of 51-24-7 and their 109 points tied Anaheim for the most in the Western Conference. However, the Blues were the second seed in the conference playoffs and were eliminated by the Wild in six games.

St. Louis has the NHL's best regular-season record over the last four years with a pair of division titles, but playoff success has eluded the team. After a loss in the second round of the playoffs in the spring of 2012, the Blues have been ousted in the first round each of the last three years.

Hitchcock has a record of 175-79-27 during his tenure in St. Louis and was honored as the NHL's top coach in his first season with the Blues in 2011-12.
