Chris Sale was dominant over 7 2/3 innings in guiding the Chicago White Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of Thursday's traditional doubleheader.
Sale (4-2) gave up just four hits with a season-high 12 strikeouts and no walks. The stingy left-hander extended his franchise record of games with 10- plus strikeouts to 21.
Adam LaRoche went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two doubles, while Melky Cabrera and Tyler Flowers each drove in a run for the White Sox, who will attempt to sweep their first doubleheader against the Orioles since Aug. 21, 1999 in the nightcap.
Chris Davis hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning for Baltimore. Tyler Wilson (1-1), who was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk prior to the game, was tagged with the loss but pitched well in his first career major league start, giving up two runs on five hits over six innings of work.
The doubleheader, being played after the games on April 27th and 28th were postponed due to safety concerns over the Freddie Gray protests, will continue with Chris Beck making his major league debut on the mound for Chicago against Baltimore's Mike Wright.

Travis Snider, Steve Clevenger and David Lough all had two hits and an RBI to help the Baltimore Orioles split a doubleheader with the Chicago White Sox with a 6-3 victory.
The White Sox earned a 3-2 decision in the opener of this twinbill, which made up games postponed on April 27 and 28 due to last month's Baltimore riots, behind Chris Sale's 7 2/3 scoreless inning, 12-strikeout effort.
Ryan Flaherty also had two hits while scoring a run for Baltimore in the nightcap.
All three Chicago runs in Game 2 came on a pair of homers off Mike Wright (2-0) in the rookie's five-inning stint. Four Oriole relievers combined to hold the White Sox scoreless the rest of the way, with Zach Britton twirling a perfect ninth to nail down his 13th save.
Adam LaRoche had a two-run shot in a losing cause and Adam Eaton added a solo homer for Chicago.
Chris Beck (0-1) was able to give the White Sox six innings in his major league debut, but was reached for five runs -- four earned -- and 10 hits while walking four.
