Sox Win; Cubs, Cards Lose

 width=>>Abreu, Rodon Lead Sox Past Astros

Chicago rookie Carlos Rodon outdueled Houston ace Dallas Keuchel and the White Sox beat the Astros 4-2 on Tuesday.

Rodon (2-0) labored, needing 116 pitches to get through six innings of work, but he managed to keep the suddenly cold Astros off the scoreboard. The 22-year-old allowed four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Keuchel (7-2) pitched a shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts against Chicago on May 30, but he was reached for a pair of runs and got betrayed by his offense in this one. Keuchel was responsible for two runs on seven hits over seven innings.

Houston has dropped a season-worst six straight games, and has scored more than two runs just once during the run.

The White Sox got to Keuchel in the sixth inning. Alexei Ramirez led off with an infield single down the third base line, and Jose Abreu followed with a two-run home run to right-center. It was just the fourth long ball that Keuchel has allowed this season.

Chicago pushed across a pair of crucial insurance runs in the eighth against Houston's bullpen. Two singles and a walk against Chad Qualls led to Melky Cabrera's two-run double over Preston Tucker's head in left field. Josh Fields came on for Qualls and struck out the side, but the damage was done.

Chris Carter doubled to start the top of the ninth against Zach Duke before Carlos Correa, who made his major-league debut on Monday, smacked his first career home run to cut Houston's deficit in half.

David Robertson got Luis Valbuena to fly out to deep right, then struck out Colby Rasmus and George Springer to end the game and record his 12th save.

 width=>>Sanchez, Tigers Blank Cubs

Anibal Sanchez ended a two-start losing streak with 7 2/3 scoreless innings as the Detroit Tigers downed the Chicago Cubs 6-0 in the opener of a two-game set.

Sanchez (4-7) struck out seven and scattered six hits and two walks to help the Tigers win a third straight game.

Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored in the win, while Ian Kinsler and Nick Castellanos each drove in two for Detroit.

Cubs starter Jon Lester (4-5) was charged with five runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings. Lester has been given a loss in each of his last three starts, and the Cubs are winless in his last four outings.

The Cubs had their two-game winning streak halted.

Rajai Davis doubled to begin the home first, moved up on a passed ball by Cubs catcher David Ross and scored the game's first run on Cabrera's single to center.

In the top of the second, Ross lifted a high fly ball to left center in which Davis leaped and snared out of the air before crashing into the fence.

Detroit opened the game up through the fourth and the sixth innings.

Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes singled to start the bottom of the fourth, then both scored later in the frame on Castellano's base hit to left.

The Tigers put up two more in the fifth, knocking Lester from the game, but could have gotten more. Jose Iglesias singled to lead things off and was cut down by Ross attempting to steal second before Davis tripled to center. Kinsler knocked Davis in with a double and J.D. Martinez sent an RBI single into left later in the frame for a 5-0 advantage.

Josh Wilson doubled to begin the Tigers' sixth and came around on Kinsler's two-out RBI knock off Edwin Jackson.

Sanchez got the first two outs of the eighth before allowing a single to Dexter Fowler and consecutive walks to Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant. Joba Chamberlain came on and struck out Miguel Montero to end the inning.

 width=>>Rockies Edge Cardinals

Jorge De La Rosa pitched seven innings to lead the Colorado Rockies in a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the second of a three-game series.

De La Rosa (3-2) allowed two runs on three hits with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts for the Rockies, who have won three of their last four. Nolan Arenado hit a two-run home run while DJ LeMahieu and Carlos Gonzalez each drove in a run.

Peter Bourjos hit a solo home run and drove in two and Jhonny Peralta added a solo homer for the Cardinals, who have dropped three of their past four. Michael Wacha (8-2) gave up four runs on nine hits with 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

St. Louis didn't get its first hit until the fifth inning when Randal Grichuk led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, took third on Jon Jay's groundout and scored thanks to a single from Bourjos.

The Cardinals made it a 2-0 game in the sixth on Peralta's two-out solo shot, but the Rockies answered in the home half as Gonzalez singled with one out and Arenado followed with his 15th home run of the season.

Colorado then went on top in the seventh inning. Wilin Rosario singled with one out and came home two batters later on a LeMahieu double. Troy Tulowitzki was then given an intentional walk and Randy Choate took the mound. Gonzalez followed with an RBI single to left for a 4-2 advantage.

Bourjos led off the eighth with his second home run of the season and the Cardinals loaded the bases later in the frame with two outs, but Scott Oberg got Yadier Molina to fly out to deep center to end the frame.

John Axford tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season.

>>Giants Rookie Fires No Hitter Against Mets

Chris Heston, a 27-year-old rookie making his 13th career start, threw the 17th no-hitter in Giants history on Tuesday night, striking out 11 in a 5-0 win over the New York Mets.

Heston (6-4) hit two batters in the fourth inning and one in the ninth, the only baserunners he allowed in the first no-hitter by any pitcher this season. He struck out the last three batters of the game.

Heston also had a two-run single while Joe Panik and Matt Duffy hit solo home runs for San Francisco, which has won three of its last four games.

Noah Syndergaard (2-4) allowed four runs on 10 hits over six innings for the Mets, who have dropped three of their past four games.

The last time the Mets were no-hit was Sept. 8, 1993, by the late Darryl Kile, pitching for the Houston Astros.
