All Local Baseball Teams Win

 width=>>Sox Power Past Astros

Jose Quintana pitched seven quality innings and got backed by three home runs as the Chicago White Sox completed a three- game sweep of the Houston Astros with a 4-1 win on Wednesday.

Quintana (3-6) allowed just a run on six hits for the White Sox, who handed Houston its season-high seventh straight defeat. His only blemish came in the second inning, when Jake Marisnick plated Chris Carter with a sacrifice fly to left.

Adam LaRoche and Geovany Soto hit solo home runs and Jose Abreu launched a two-run shot to account for Chicago's offense.

Velasquez yielded three hits and walked four batters but struck out five and left after five scoreless innings.

Chris Coghlan and Miguel Montero each hit a three-run homer as the Chicago Cubs routed the Detroit Tigers, 12-3, in the finale of a two-game set at Comerica Park.

Jake Arrieta (6-4) was solid on the mound for Chicago, allowing three runs with eight strikeouts over six innings.

Anthony Rizzo knocked in two runs for the Cubs, who wrapped up a nine-game road trip with a 5-4 record.

Shane Greene (4-6) continued to struggle for Detroit. Greene took a loss in his fourth straight start after surrendering five runs in three innings of work. Detroit relievers didn't do much better at keeping the Chicago bats quiet as the visitors put the game away with a six-run seventh inning.

Yoenis Cespedes clubbed a three-run homer off Arrieta to account for the Detroit offense.

The Tigers had their three-game winning streak snapped.

 width=>>Cardinals Avoid Sweep In Colorado

Carlos Martinez pitched out of trouble in every inning before giving up a home run on his last pitch and the St. Louis Cardinals hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 4-2 on Wednesday to avoid being swept in a three-game series.

Martinez (7-2) extended his unbeaten streak to five consecutive starts. He gave up eight hits, including a two-run homer to Ben Paulsen with one out in the seventh inning that finally ended a run of escapes for the right-hander.

Randal Grichuk stroked a solo homer and Matt Carpenter and Mark Reynolds also drove in runs for the MLB-leading Cardinals, who finished off a 4-3 road trip.

Colorado right-hander Chad Bettis (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in five innings. The Rockies had won each of his first five starts after he was called up from the minors last month.

It was just the sixth loss in the last 18 games for the Rockies since they fell a season-worst 10 games under .500 on May 23.
