Comptroller Offers Impact on Impact of No Budget

Comptroller Leslie Munger isn't sugarcoating the impact of the lack of a budget deal. She has determined which bills the state can pay and which it can't if a budget isn't in place by the start of the fiscal year July first.

If the lack of budget drags on deeper into summer, Munger says the impact will clearly be felt in every town and county in Illinois...

The state would be able to pay on its debt and pension payments, state retirees would receive their benefit checks, temporary assistance for needy families would continue, as well as funds for the aged blind and disabled. Funding for most local governments would also remain in place.
