Proposed Cuts By Gov. Rauner Would Effect Local Fairs, 4-H Groups

width=The targets of the latest round of proposed cuts by Governor Bruce Rauner in the ongoing budget battle has targeted County Fairs and programs offered through the University of Illinois Extension services, including 4-H.

With a July 1 deadline looming for a budget to be passed, cuts proposed would greatly impact University of Illinois Extension services, but to what extend is unknown. That's according to Logan, Menard and Sangamon County U of I Extension Director, John Fulton.

Looking ahead, Fulton indicates the future of fairs in central Illinois is unknown. He says much of the funding they get goes towards things like insurance or operations, and how each fair decides to make up that gap is going to be up to each individual fair board.

Fulton says the cuts proposed would be devastating to the University of Illinois Extension and their dozens of programs. He says a clearer picture will be available once the details come out if a budget agreement is not reached.
