>>Cardinals Headline All-Star Game Vote; Harper Sets Record

Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper has set a new all-time single-season National League voting record in the latest All-Star balloting update.

Harper now has 9,224,370 votes, surpassing the previous mark of 7,621,370 set by San Francisco's Buster Posey in 2012.

Posey has received 6,510,231 total votes while extending his lead at catcher over six-time All-Star Yadier Molina of the Cardinals (5,251,040).

Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins has moved into second place among outfielders. Stanton, who has received 4,824,989 votes, is bidding for his first career starting assignment. Matt Holliday of the Cardinals, who has received 4,716,941 votes, holds the third outfield slot.

width=At third base, Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals continues to lead with 5,504,534 votes, while Todd Frazier of the host Cincinnati Reds has moved into second place with 4,308,446 votes.

Joining Carpenter on the left side of the infield at shortstop is his Cardinals teammate Jhonny Peralta, who has received 5,864,485 votes to remain ahead of San Francisco's Brandon Crawford (3,688,042).

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon continue to lead at their respective positions.

This year's All-Star Game will take place July 14 at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park.

>>Nationals Activate Strasburg From DL

The Washington Nationals reinstated right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg from the 15-day disabled list to start against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

Strasburg returns to the club after missing 21 games due to neck tightness that caused him to leave his last start on May 29 against Cincinnati after just one-plus inning of work.

The right-hander has struggled this season, recording a 3-5 record with a 6.55 ERA in 10 starts before landing on the disabled list.

Ross, the younger brother of San Diego Padres pitcher Tyson Ross, went 2-1 in three starts during his first stint in the majors.

>>Braves Place Slugger Freeman On DL

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a right wrist injury.

Freeman last played on June 17 against Boston and has already missed four games because of the injury. He had played 243 consecutive games before sitting out last Thursday.

An MRI exam during Atlanta's off day on Monday revealed only a contusion.

Freeman leads the Braves with 12 homers and 41 runs batted in while also topping the club with a .299 batting average in 66 games.

The Braves have recalled outfielder Joey Terdoslavich from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the vacant roster spot. Kelly Johnson started the last four games at first base with Freeman sidelined.
