Clinton Fire Department Kept Busy Monday

In almost non-stop fashion, the Clinton Fire Department Monday responded to one call after another after another.

Just before noon on Monday, the Fire Department was called to a downed power line on East Jefferson Street. Fire Chief David Dallas indicates Ameren was called and they took care of it from there.

Around 2 pm Monday, the Fire Department was then called to Washington Street for a gas leak. Chief Dallas explains a contractor was working in the area and hit a gas line. The Chief took the time to encourage anyone working on a project requiring digging to use the state hotline titled "Julie".

Streets around the Haunted House in Clinton were shut down for nearly two hours as crews worked to secure the natural gas leak.

The third of the four calls on the day was a vehicle accident on Route 54. According to Chief, they were still at the site of the gas leak and received a call to a vehicle accident on Route 51. A car had caught fire after rear-ending a truck hauling flammable liquids.

The final call of the day was a house fire on Monroe Street. The Chief indicates a fire in the attic of the home was barely visible upon their arrival, but it was significant enough, there was extensive damage to the home.

Crews from Kenney, Wapella and Maroa were called to the structure fire yesterday evening.
