DNR Officials Hoping For Safe 4th of July Season

Department of Natural Resources officials expect this to be a very busy weekend on Clinton Lake and other popular bodies of water across the state.

DNR Conservation Police Officer John Williamson anticipates people to swarm to Clinton Lake with a potential three-day weekend, or longer for others. He encourages boaters to make sure they give their equipment a once over before hitting the waters.

It is legal to have a few beverages while out on the lake, but Williamson encourages the designated driver program even on the waters. He stresses using the designated driver program no matter if you're behind the wheel of a car or boat.

With waters being higher on the lakes and waterways because of the wet summer, Williamson encourages boaters to use extra caution and be aware of where they are.
