Lincoln Sells Train Car As It Fixes Depot

One central Illinois community has sold off two passenger cars and two cabooses as it renovates its downtown train station.

Reports indicate, Lincoln recently sold the equipment to a short-haul railway company, Iowa Pacific Holding. The cars had been a curiosity of a long-closed restaurant, called the Lincoln Depot, adjacent to the station.

But Lincoln's focus is now on fixing up the old station. Part of the plan is to have office space in the building. Lincoln's city administrator, Clay Johnson, says the design will be finalized later.

The city devoted more attention to the station after a federal project to improve tracks on a Chicago-St. Louis line going through Lincoln. It's expected to cut travel times for passenger trains between those cities.
