Bulls Sign 1st Round Pick, Bring Back PG Brooks; NBA Notes

 width=The Chicago Bulls signed first-round draft pick Bobby Portis on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-11 forward from the University of Arkansas was drafted No. 22 by the Bulls last month.

Portis was named SEC Player of the Year after averaging 17.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 36 games for the Razorbacks this past season. He averaged 15 points and 7.9 rebounds in 70 games over two college seasons.

The Chicago Bulls will reportedly bring back guard Aaron Brooks on a one-year deal, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The 30-year-old Brooks averaged 11.6 points per game last season, but shot just 34.4 percent during the playoffs.

Brooks joins Jimmy Butler and Mike Dunleavy as imcumbents who have verbally committed to the Bulls.

The Boston Celtics acquired center David Lee from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for forward Gerald Wallace on Tuesday.

Lee, two years removed from being an All-Star, was relegated to a lesser role on the world-champion Warriors due to the emergence of Draymond Green. The 32- year-old averaged 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this past season.

His 18.4 minutes per game were his fewest since his rookie season in 2005-06.

Wallace played less than 10 minutes per game last season, but his contract will help Golden State's salary cap situation in an effort to sign MVP Steph Curry to a max deal down the line.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed first-round draft picks Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyus Jones.

Terms of the contracts announced Tuesday were undisclosed.

Towns was selected with the first overall pick of last month's draft after a stellar freshman season at Kentucky. He averaged 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.26 blocks in 39 games, all starts, for the Wildcats.

Jones helped Duke to the national championship in his lone season with the Blue Devils last season. He averaged 11.8 points and a team-high 5.6 assists with 3.5 rebounds for the season.

The 6-foot-1 Minnesota native was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. He averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in six NCAA Tournament games.

Jones was chosen with the 24th overall pick of the draft by Cleveland and was traded to Minnesota on draft night.

The Utah Jazz signed first-round draft pick Trey Lyles on Tuesday.

Lyles was selected No. 12 overall last month after playing one college season at Kentucky.

The 6-foot-10 forward, who is a Canadian and American citizen, averaged 8.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 23 minutes per game as part of Kentucky's platoon system and helped the Wildcats reach the Final Four.

The Philadelphia 76ers announced the signing of No. 3 overall draft pick Jahlil Okafor on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-11 center from Duke averaged 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds in his only college season and helped the Blue Devils win the national title.

A consensus first-team All-American and the ACC Player of the Year, Okafor had 20 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in his Summer League debut on Monday.

The St. Louis Blues have signed forward Vladimir Tarasenko to an eight-year contract worth $60 million.

Tarasenko was the NHL's 10th-leading scorer this past season with 73 points and was fifth in goals with 37. He earned his first career All-Star Game selection in January and was also chosen as a Second-Team All-Star at the conclusion of the campaign.

The 23-year-old Russian native was selected by the Blues with the 16th overall pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He has compiled 66 goals and 69 assists for 135 points in 179 games over three seasons with the club.

Tarasenko also has 10 playoff goals in 13 games, including six in this year's first-round series loss to Minnesota.

The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk on a two-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 23-year-old van Riemsdyk posted one assist in 18 regular-season games for the Blackhawks this past season and skated in four Stanley Cup playoff games.
