2 Men Dead In Head-On Crash in Macon County

2 people are dead following an apparent head-on collision this morning around eleven o'clock on Illinois Route 121 near the Lincoln Memorial Parkway in rural Macon County.

Macon County Coroner Michael E. Day tells Regional Radio News, that both vehicles were engulfed in flames immediately after impact, and dental records had to be used to identify them during an autopsy this afternoon at he McLean County morgue.

Day says the driver of the pickup truck was 47-year-old Robert Doty of Decatur, while the driver of a passenger vehicle was 22-year-old Jonathan Franklin of Lincoln.

Logan County Coroner Robert Thomas assisted Day's office in the notification and identification process on the Lincoln resident.

An inquest will be scheduled at a later date. The exact causes of death are still pending completion of the final autopsy testing and issuance of the autopsy reports, according to Day.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office is conducting a crash reconstruction of the head-on crash.
