Giants' JPP Loses Finger; Bucs CB Loses Two

>>Giants DL Pierre-Paul Has Finger Amputated

ESPN says it obtained a medical chart showing that star New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul had his right index finger amputated on Wednesday.

A Giants spokesman said the team is aware of the report but would not comment further.

Pierre-Paul reportedly suffered a hand injury attempting to light fireworks over the weekend while apparently celebrating the Fourth of July.

width=The injury is not thought to be career threatening, according to reports, and a medical source told ESPN that Pierre-Paul should be expected to play next season "sooner than people think."

The Giants used their franchise tag on Pierre-Paul in March, though he has apparently not yet signed the tender. He is expected to play next season for $14.8 million after the Giants reportedly withdrew a long-term offer after his injury that the five-year veteran likely wasn't going to sign anyway.

Pierre-Paul, 26, was drafted by the Giants No. 15 overall in 2010 and has collected 42 sacks and 286 tackles in 75 NFL games.

>>Tampa CB Injures Hand In Fireworks Mishap

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers say cornerback C.J. Wilson was injured in a fireworks accident over the weekend, the second such incident involving an NFL player apparently celebrating the Fourth of July.

Wilson's agent, Joel Turner, confirmed to ESPN that the cornerback suffered a hand injury.

The Lincoln Times-News, a newspaper based in Lincolnton, North Carolina, where Wilson was born, reported that he lost two fingers in the incident, citing sources close to the cornerback's family.

Wilson, 25, appeared in two games for the Bucs last season, making four tackles.
